Music and the Brain
High school students who take music courses score significantly better on math, science and English exams than their non-musical peers, according to a new study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology. “Children who received music lessons showed improved language-based reasoning and the ability to plan, organize and complete tasks, as well as improved academic achievement,” Music can have profound effects on children on the Autism spectrum and is being developed as a treatment for adults with depression and anxiety. If the brain is a Muscle, then learning to play an instrument and read music is the ultimate exercise!
